Partner visa (subclasses 820 and 801)

The Subclass 820 and Subclass 801 are two different partner visas that allow the spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia. The temporary Partner visa (subclass 820) is granted first, becoming a pathway to obtaining the permanent Partner visa (subclass 801) later.
You must apply for both the visas at the same time and pay only one application charge. Applications are processed in two stages, within a gap of 2 years.

Parent category visas

The Parent Category Visas are visa types for bringing in the parents of Australian Citizens or Residents to the country. There are different categories under which your parents can enter the country for a limited or an indefinite amount of time.

Eligibility Criteria

You might be eligible to apply for a parent category visa if:

● you have a child who is an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen
● your child has been living in Australia legitimately for at least 2 years before you lodge your visa application
● you have a sponsor (child)
● you meet the Balance of family test criteria
● you meet health and character requirements.

How long can your parents stay in Australia on a parent category visa?

A parent category visa allows your parents to:

● live in Australia for up to 2 years as a temporary resident
● live in Australia as an Australian permanent resident.

Temporary Visas

1. Contributory Parent visa (Subclass 173)

This visa type allows the parent of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen live in Australia for a time period of 2 years. You can work and study in Australia without government assistance.
This visa type is also the pathway to obtaining the Contributory Parent Visa Subclass 143.

2. Contributory Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 884)

This visa type is for aged parents of a settled Australian citizen, a permanent resident of Australia, or an eligible New Zealand citizen, to stay in the Australian nation temporarily. As an applicant, you can live in Australia for up to 2 years with this visa. You can work and study in Australia, but you will not be able to receive any government support. This visa type is the pathway to applying for a permanent Contributory Aged Parent (subclass 864) visa

Permanent Visas

1. Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143)

This visa type lets the parents of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident of Australia or an eligible New Zealand citizen remain in Australia on a permanent basis. As an applicant for this visa, you can stay in Australia permanently as a resident with full living rights and sponsor eligible relatives to come to Australia. If required, you can travel to and from Australia for 5 years before you need a Resident Return visa.

2. Contributory Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 864)

This is a permanent visa type for the parents of a settled Australian citizen, a permanent resident of Australia, or an eligible New Zealand citizen. With this visa, you can stay in Australia as a permanent resident and work and study there for as long as you like. You will be eligible for enrolling in Australia’s public health care scheme – Medicare.

Parent Visa (Subclass 103)

The Parent Visa Subclass 103 lets you live in Australia with your children for an indefinite amount of time, on the condition that they are Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens settled in Australia. This category is especially made for parents staying outside Australian territory. This visa has the lowest application fee out of all the Parent Visas, but the waiting times for an approval can take up to as long as 30 years.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for a Parent Visa (subclass 103), a parent must:

1.Meet the balance of family test
2.Meet health and character requirements
3.Have a sponsor

Aged Dependent Relative visa (Subclass 114)

This visa is for older people who want to migrate to Australia if they rely on an eligible relative/ immediate blood relation in Australia, for financial assistance. A single old person can move to Australia permanently, but there can be waiting times of up to 50 years for this visa.
Eligibility Criteria:
You must:
● be dependent on the relative in Australia
● be single
● be old enough to receive the Australian aged pension
● have someone who will provide an assurance of support.
Including family
You can file an application for your family members as well when you apply. However, for this visa, your family members are your dependent children or stepchildren. Family members who apply for the visa must meet the health and character requirements of Australia.
Length of stay
A person with this visa can stay in Australia for an indefinite amount of time

Aged Dependent Relative visa (Subclass 838)

The Aged Dependent Relative visa (subclass 838) is a permanent visa that allows old people to stay in Australia if they rely on an eligible relative in Australia to provide them with financial support. You must be in Australia when you lodge your application, and you must be in the country when the visa is granted.
This is a permanent visa. It allows you and your family to:
● stay in Australia indefinitely as an Australian permanent resident.
● apply for an Australian citizenship
● travel to and from Australia as a permanent resident for five years from the date the visa is granted – after that time you will need to apply for another visa if you want to return to Australia.
Eligibility Requirements
● You must be in Australia when you apply and when a decision is made on your application
● be sponsored by your relative/child or your relative’s partner

You can file an application for your family members as well when you apply for this visa. Family members who apply for the visa with you must meet the Australian health and character requirements.
